Disclaimer
Please read this as a boundary, not as fine print meant to be skipped. Being Human is a static collection of educational pages. It is not a doctor, not a nurse, not a pharmacist, not a lawyer, and not an emergency service. Nothing on this site is medical advice. Nothing on this site is legal advice.
The pages describe, in general language, how human bodies tend to work. They do not examine you. They do not know your history, your medicines, your allergies, or the way your particular heart sounds. They cannot diagnose. They cannot rule out a diagnosis. They cannot prescribe, un-prescribe, or tell you to stop a treatment a clinician has given you. If something on a page seems to conflict with advice you were given in a real appointment, the appointment wins until you speak with that clinician again.
Emergencies and urgent care
If you think you or someone with you is in danger — chest pain, trouble breathing, a face that droops, heavy bleeding, a seizure, a serious injury, thoughts of suicide with a plan, a child who cannot be roused — do not stay on this site. Use your local emergency number. People in crisis should use local emergency services or a local crisis line, not this site.
Distance from help is real. If you are far from a hospital, that is a reason to call sooner, not later. This site cannot shorten a road.
No professional relationship
Reading these pages does not create a clinician–patient relationship, a lawyer–client relationship, or any duty of care beyond the ordinary duty not to deceive. The authoring of this folder is educational. Names, if they ever appear, would be as writers, not as your providers. A web page is not an encounter.
The mention of emergency numbers and crisis lines is general. Those services have their own rules and hours. They are not partners of this site. This site does not speak for any ministry, hospital, or clinic.
Accuracy, dates, and limits
The prose is a first-pass teaching text. It aims to be careful and calm. It may still contain errors, simplifications, or sentences that will age as science moves. Medicine changes. A page about sleep or nutrition is not a living guideline. For decisions, use a clinician and sources that are current and specific to you.
The literature page points at public-domain and openly licensed reading, and at a general knowledge list. Old books are often wrong about mechanism. They are offered as culture and history. The learning page teaches you how to weigh a claim; it does not cite invented papers, and it does not replace a librarian or a physician who can help you interpret a result.
Privacy, forms, and ads
The newsletter form posts an email address to a third-party form service, which forwards it to the editor’s inbox. That is a message, not a finished mailing-list product. Do not send medical details through it. The communication page does not collect a comment. If you host a copy, you are responsible for whatever you add: analytics, a real mailing list, a comment box. Those additions can become privacy duties. Do not add them casually.
This copy does not load advertisements, does not include Amazon associate IDs, and does not track you for a marketplace. If a later host adds those, that host should label ads as ads and should not let a sponsor quietly rewrite a health sentence.
Copyright and the drawing
The figure on the home page is original line art for this site. It is inspired by the old idea of a body as a map. It is not a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing and not a scan of a museum work. Other people’s words and pictures remain theirs. Do not paste copyrighted chapters into a copy of this folder.
If you host this folder
You may put these files on a static host as described in the README. You should keep this disclaimer, keep the footer line that the site is not medical or legal advice, and not present the pages as clinical services. If you change the medical wording, you own those changes. If you add a shop, you own that shop. Do not use this material to frighten people into a purchase.
By using the site, you agree that you understand these limits. If you do not agree, close the page and use a service designed for care. The map will still be here if you want a general education later, in a calmer hour.
